Zignal Voice

Zignal Voice Command was created to allow hands-free bidirectional voice control of Zignal Command Center (ZCC) using Alexa hardware, phones, tablets, or web browsers. During Zignal Labs' hack week, I worked with a teammate to implement over 19 voice commands and our team received second place out of 14 teams.

We built Zignal Voice Command to improve accessibility (hands-free interaction requiring no mouse, keyboard, or computer) and because Alexa Dot was fairly cheap ($50 when released Oct. 20th), portable, and open, which made it perfect for a quick hack-week prototype.

The following video shows the Alexa Dot in action controlling the Command Center behind it.

Here are some of the commands issued:

  • "open command center": initiates a dialog session to make it easier to issue a series of commands.
  • "show numbers"
  • "hide numbers"
  • "menu"
  • "screenshot": saves a screenshot of all screens and uploads a compressed screenshot to Google Drive
  • "shut down": shuts down the command center
